Two Arsenal Stars on the Chopping Block as Gunners Pursue £60m Sensation

Two Arsenal Stars on the Chopping Block as Gunners Pursue £60m Sensation

The star has received plenty of European attention despite brief cameo in Euros 2024 so far
Arsenal are said to be hopeful of getting Eberechi Eze back on the Emirates books, 13 years after letting him go, and are willing to part ways with two stars to make the deal happen. That’s according to TEAMTalk, who claim the Crystal Palace winger has been the subject of Gunners’ interest, but the north London club will be facing intense competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and ‘all the top clubs in Europe’.

The 25-year-old star was one of two standout Eagles’ attackers in the 2023/24 campaign, producing 17 goal contributions in 31 matches. His phenomenal form has seen him earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euros 2024 squad and while he has only played 22 minutes in the competition so far, England fans are hopeful he will be given more of a chance.

Palace’s other standout figure Michael Olise has already reportedly agreed to head to Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich and while Oliver Glasner will be desperate to keep hold of Eze, it’s highly likely the end of the summer will see the Greenwich-born star departing Selhurst Park.

Eze’s reported release clause is said to be £60million and while the aforementioned Premier League trio are all said to be interested, journalist Simon Phillips has noted that the Gunners are ‘pushing more’ than their rivals to secure the former QPR star’s signature.

It’s also said by Phillips that Arteta will try and sell Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson to make room for Eze but even if they do sell the Hale End graduate pair, there remains a huge amount of transfer competition.

Phillips writes: “Arsenal are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Eze, and they are looking to move out players like Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson on to make room and get Eze in. However, sources also say that pretty much every top club in Europe is now looking and considering Eze, including Chelsea and Liverpool.”

The Stamford Bridge club are reported to be big fans of Eze but the new head coach is hopeful of targeting a different kind of player with it understood that Athletic Bilbao and Spain winger Nico Williams is higher on the wish-list.

“A lot of people at Chelsea like the England international”, Phillips continued. “However, he is seen as more of a 10 than a winger and Chelsea are targeting a winger more than a 10.

“Of course, Eze can and does play as a winger too, and he is very versatile. So Chelsea’s interest in him could push on and become more solid. But at the moment, the interest is more tentative than anything else and nothing has advanced or moved forward on it as of Wednesday morning.

“Let’s see if Chelsea decide to step up on Eze or not, but they are also looking at other winger options as higher up on the shortlist at the moment, and it is Arsenal who are pushing the most for him.”

Tottenham Hotspur have also been heavily linked with a move for the Eagles star with reports saying Arsenal’s north London rivals have even inquired as to his services. It could well be imagined that Spurs would consequently hope to secure a lower fee for Eze having already inquired but, with such competition for the forward’s services, Crystal Palace will not find it hard to secure the full £60m package.
