Premier League’s top scorer admires Chelsea’s standout

Alan Shearer has been speaking on the Rest is Football podcast about Cole Palmer, and as you’d expect he was full of praise for the attacking midfielder, who has looked brilliant from the moment he stepped into our first team:

“I think the way Cole Palmer has fitted into the Chelsea team when they have been struggling and he’s the one to shine most weeks. Without him, they would be in a bigger mess than what they are now,” the Premier League record goalscorer raved.

It’s the latest in a line of very positive comments about Palmer which show how much he’s broken through into the public consciousness. Quotes like this, along with his nomination for player of the month and goal of the month for December in the Premier League, show that it’s not just Chelsea fans who have realised how good he is – the footballing world at large is catching on.
It’s no wonder there is talk of him heading to the Euros next summer – it’s just a shame there aren’t more England games before then for him to establish himself with the notoriously cautious Gareth Southgate.
