Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool is interested in Real Madrid star Rodrygo, while Darwin Núñez has also been linked to a potential departure from Anfield, according to Fichajes via CaughtOffside. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed these rumors, stating they are largely unfounded.
In his Daily Briefing, Romano said, “It’s tough to comment on the Rodrygo and Darwin Núñez rumors. I’m not sure where these links are coming from. There are no negotiations regarding Núñez to Atlético Madrid or Rodrygo to Liverpool. Trust me, it’s completely quiet now.”
Romano added that Núñez is fully focused on Liverpool, especially after Atlético recently spent €75 million plus add-ons on Julián Alvarez, while Rodrygo, who signed an extension with Real Madrid less than a year ago, is also concentrating solely on his current club.
Despite a quieter start to the 2024/25 season, with five goal contributions in ten games for Rodrygo (averaging a contribution every 150.4 minutes), Liverpool still seems to hold an interest in him. Graeme Bailey from TBR Football suggests that their interest in Rodrygo has not faded, even after a summer inquiry was rejected. However, it seems the Brazilian is committed to his future in Madrid.
The question of replacing Mo Salah, whose contract expires in summer 2025, looms large for Liverpool. Although there are hopes that he may remain at Anfield for at least another season, considering the future is essential. Rodrygo could be an ideal long-term replacement, as he ranks in the 94th percentile for expected goals (xG) and the 43rd for expected assists (xAG) on FBref. However, his touches in the opposing box (6.39 per 90) are noticeably lower than Salah’s (9.08), indicating he still has room to grow in matching Salah’s exceptional scoring and creative abilities. Unfortunately, it seems Rodrygo is unlikely to leave Real Madrid for Liverpool anytime soon.
