During his first transfer window, Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, made just one key signing: Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £10 million. The Reds were keen to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after his standout performances in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory, but the midfielder opted to stay at his current club.

However, Liverpool are reportedly laying the groundwork for next summer, with speculation that a potential deal is already in motion. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation remains unresolved, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. The England international has been linked to a move to Real Madrid, especially after Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury.

Despite their desire to extend Alexander-Arnold’s contract, Liverpool are reportedly targeting Netherlands and Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries as a possible replacement. Dumfries, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, has yet to sign a contract extension with Inter. The club is concerned that the 29-year-old may have already reached an agreement with a third party, believed to be Liverpool.

While Liverpool will still push to secure new contracts for Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, Dumfries would be a valuable free addition to the squad. With 60 caps for the Netherlands and a key role in Inter Milan’s recent success, including a Serie A title and two Coppa Italia trophies, Dumfries could bring significant experience and skill to Liverpool’s defense.
