“‘It Happened to Others Too…’ – Ancelotti Shares Bold Theory on Why Klopp Contemplated Leaving Liverpool”
Carlo Ancelotti has offered his perspective on Jurgen Klopp’s decision to step down as Liverpool manager this year. Klopp, the German coach, confirmed in January that he would leave Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season, and he bid an emotional farewell to the club last month.
In an interview with Il Giornale, the Real Madrid coach highlighted how the intense pressures of managing one of Europe’s top clubs can become overwhelming, referencing another highly successful manager who faced similar challenges.
Ancelotti remarked, “This isn’t particularly surprising, it’s part of our job, but Klopp’s situation is telling. The constant pressure, the weight of responsibilities, and the obsessive nature of the role can become too much. The same thing happened to Arrigo Sacchi.”
He added, “When professional relationships start to break down, it’s better to leave quietly, without controversy or conflict.”
When Klopp revealed his decision to step down, he acknowledged feeling ‘out of energy,’ a testament to the physical and emotional toll that elite management can take after more than 20 years in the profession.
