Mohammed Kudus received a red card after a VAR review, having completely lost his composure and striking not one, but three Tottenham players. Kudus, who had earlier put West Ham United ahead, was sent off and unable to complete Saturday’s Premier League match.
The incident began when Kudus clashed with Micky van de Ven, appearing to lash out at the defender while he was on the ground. Van de Ven reacted angrily after Kudus struck him in the face.
Following that altercation, Kudus accidentally collided with Richarlison, who had rushed over to the fray. Lastly, he struck Pape Sarr in the face, though Sarr remained on his feet, while Van de Ven and Richarlison were left on the ground.
Initially handed a yellow card, Kudus’s punishment was upgraded to a straight red after a thorough VAR review.
Despite Kudus’ early goal, West Ham couldn’t take anything from the match, suffering a punishing 4-1 loss. Dejan Kulusevski equalized before halftime, and Spurs completely took control in the second half, scoring three times in just eight minutes through Yves Bissouma, an Alphonse Areola own goal, and Son Heung-min.
This defeat to their London rivals leaves the Hammers sitting 14th in the table with eight points. Julen Lopetegui’s side has now lost four of their first eight league games this season.
To make matters worse, Lopetegui will be without Kudus for the next three league matches against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton due to suspension.
