“Liverpool Overtakes Newcastle in High-Stakes Race for Top Center-Back”

“Liverpool Seize Key Advantage Over Newcastle in Center-Back Transfer Battle”
Liverpool is reportedly the preferred destination for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, despite ongoing interest from Newcastle United.
Guehi has impressed at Selhurst Park and shone for England at Euro 2024, making him an appealing target for top clubs, especially as Palace’s form has declined recently. According to Football Insider, the 24-year-old has confided in friends that he’d favor a move to Liverpool if he leaves Palace, which would be a major boost for the Reds.
Seen as an ideal long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, who is nearing the end of his contract, Guehi could initially play alongside the Dutchman before taking over in the future. However, Van Dijk may still extend his deal, but Liverpool will need to plan for the future regardless.
While Guehi appears to be a strong candidate, Liverpool is also monitoring other defensive options, with Loic Bade and Goncalo Inacio among those on their radar. Despite his Premier League experience being a key advantage, Guehi would likely come at a premium price, and Palace, having already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, will be reluctant to let another key player leave.
Palace, struggling after a poor start to the season, will likely resist any move to sell Guehi, especially to a Premier League rival.
