Arsenal have announced Adam Birchall as the new Under-18s head coach, following Jack Wilshere’s move to Norwich City in the Championship. Wilshere, who guided Arsenal’s youth team to the FA Youth Cup final, leaves his post at London Colney to join Norwich’s coaching staff.
Birchall, previously Wilshere’s assistant, now steps up to the head coach role. He’s been part of Arsenal’s academy for six years, with recent responsibilities overseeing the under-17s. His coaching experience includes stints at Barnet, Mansfield Town, Gillingham, and Dover.
In an official statement, Arsenal expressed their excitement for Birchall’s promotion. Per Mertesacker also praised Birchall, highlighting his long-standing connection with the club and his readiness to inspire the next generation of Arsenal talent.
Meanwhile, Wilshere has joined Norwich City, where he will work alongside manager Johannes Hoff Thorup and the coaching team. The Canaries are currently seventh in the Championship, and Wilshere fills the vacancy left by Narcis Pelach, who left to manage Stoke City.
Wilshere took to X to congratulate Birchall on his promotion, writing, “My brother @adam_birchall10. The players and staff are lucky to have you lead them! Good luck mate.”
