“I want to end my professional career at Arsenal, but only if they sell a £60m player. He’s the only one I don’t want to play alongside,” Neymar Jr. shares the key condition that’s preventing him from joining Arsenal by January.
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva expressed his enthusiasm for seeing Neymar in the Premier League with Arsenal, stating that a transfer isn’t “impossible.”
Neymar, 32, had a challenging first season with Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League after moving from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He played just five matches, scoring one goal and providing three assists, before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee last October.
After undergoing surgery, he has not played since and missed the Copa America with Brazil this summer. However, Neymar is working his way back to full fitness and aims for a pre-season return as Al-Hilal prepares to defend its Saudi Pro League title.
Gilberto believes a move to Arsenal is very much within reach for Neymar, who spent ten years in Europe before his switch to the Middle East. He said, “I’d love to see Neymar in the Premier League with Arsenal; it would be interesting for sure. It would bring a lot of joy to fans and make the competition even more exciting.
“We want to see the best players in the world in the Premier League, and having him here would be fantastic. It’s not impossible for him to join Arsenal—why not?”
Neymar has previously mentioned Arsenal as a potential destination, indicating during his time at Barcelona that a future move to North London could be possible.
“The Premier League is an amazing league,” he noted. “I admire the playing style and the teams. Who knows? I’d like to play there one day. I respect Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool—these teams are always in the fight.”
When Neymar made the switch from PSG to Al-Hilal last summer, many Brazilian fans questioned his decision, seeing the level of competition in Saudi Arabia as lacking.
Gilberto commented, “When Neymar went to Saudi Arabia, many Brazilians didn’t have the best view of the league’s competitiveness. It was his choice, and hopefully, it won’t affect his performance. It’s tough, especially with his injury, but you can get hurt in Europe too and still have to recover.”
