Following the announcement that Vinicius had lost to Rodri, Carlo Ancelotti and three Real Madrid players swiftly expressed their reactions. The Manchester City midfielder, representing Spain, became the 50th recipient of the Ballon d’Or during the ceremony in Paris on Monday night. He was voted the best player in the world by 100 journalists from the top FIFA-ranked nations, thanks to his significant contributions to both his club’s Premier League triumph and Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.

However, Real Madrid was outraged by the outcome, choosing to entirely boycott the event upon hearing that Vinicius had not won. As a result, there was no representation for Los Blancos, leading to only a brief acknowledgment of their Team of the Year award, and Ancelotti did not collect his Men’s Johan Cruyff trophy for best coach.

In response, the Italian took to Instagram to express gratitude, specifically mentioning Vinicius: “I want to thank my family, my president, my club, my players, and above all, Vini and Carvajal.”

Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga also chimed in after the announcement, stating: “Football politics [cross emoji] My brother, you are the best player in the world, and no award can say otherwise. Love you, my bro.”

Goalkeeper Andrey Lunin shared a picture of himself with Vinicius on Instagram, adding a sticker that read, “You’re the best.” Eder Militao, Vinicius’ teammate from club and country, commented, “You are the best, and no one can take that away from you! The Best!”

Aurelien Tchouameni also paid tribute to Vinicius on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Nothing will take away what you’ve achieved, my brother. We ALL know… They are not ready for what you’re gonna deliver. Love @vinijr.”

Before Rodri was announced as the winner, Toni Kroos had referred to the 24-year-old as “The best” on Instagram, to which Vinicius replied, “I love you, Antonio!!”

Vinicius reportedly canceled a chartered flight and private event he had arranged for the occasion, ultimately settling for second place. Jude Bellingham finished third, while captain Dani Carvajal came in fourth.
