Ruud van Nistelrooy is poised to make a bold move for tonight’s Carabao Cup match against Leicester City. Following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday, it was announced that the United legend would lead the team for the game at Old Trafford.

According to Scoop, 17-year-old Jayce Fitzgerald is set to be named in United’s matchday squad for the first time. There are indications that he may step in for Christian Eriksen, who is reportedly dealing with an injury, though this has not yet been confirmed by the club.

The Salford-born midfielder is currently part of the Red Devils’ Under-18 setup, where his standout performances have drawn the attention of England, having represented the country at the Under-15 and Under-17 levels.

Last season, Fitzgerald made 16 appearances for the Under-18s, scoring three goals as the team clinched both the title and the Premier League Cup. He also progressed to the Under-21 squad, playing six matches for Travis Binnion’s team.
