Virgil van Dijk gave Liverpool fans an update on Ibrahima Konate’s injury after the French defender had to leave the field during their victory over Brighton this afternoon.

A poor first-half display that saw Liverpool trailing 0-1 only added to the fans’ concerns as they watched Konate, wearing a makeshift sling and visibly uncomfortable, head towards the dressing room.

Fortunately, the team rallied in the second half to secure a valuable win, and after the match, Van Dijk shared his observations on the incident. Speaking to Sky Sports (via BBC Sport, 17:11), he said, “There were so many bodies around the ball, and I think I might’ve headed his arm. Hopefully, it’s not too bad. We’ll just have to wait and see. An arm injury can be manageable for a player, so hopefully, he’ll be alright.”

Though it’s too early to know the full extent of Konate’s injury, Van Dijk’s remarks suggest it might not be as severe as initially feared.

With Liverpool already missing several players, manager Arne Slot wouldn’t have welcomed the sight of another key player walking off in discomfort today. However, Joe Gomez rose to the occasion when he replaced Konate, making a crucial block on Danny Welbeck shortly after Mo Salah’s goal, which secured the win.
