William Saliba’s red card against Bournemouth marked the beginning of Arsenal’s recent slump. He returned from suspension today after missing last week’s game against Liverpool.
Following the defeat against Newcastle, Saliba acknowledged that it would take time to regain his best form. He stated, “We are all a bit sad because we wanted to win today. Mikel Arteta shared Saliba’s sentiments, agreeing that his team fell short of what was needed to win. “We deserved to lose today. I thought we started well and were dominant, but we didn’t defend the box adequately. They scored a fantastic goal from a good ball, which changed the game.”
He added, “We needed to adapt better, and I’m very frustrated. We got pulled into a game that suited them, and we couldn’t execute our plan. We had two significant chances—one for Mikel and another for Declan—but we lacked solutions.”
Arteta concluded, “Words will be hard to find today, but we need to demonstrate our response on the pitch on Wednesday night. You have to be at your best every time to give yourself a chance to win.”
