Enzo Fernandez may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, as two Champions League giants monitor his situation following a fallout with Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea has made a strong start to the season under Maresca, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, ahead of Arsenal, after ten games. However, Fernandez hasn’t had the best start, finding himself sidelined from Chelsea’s starting lineup.

Recently, Maresca has favored a midfield pairing of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, and the team’s improved structure in the midfield has left Fernandez out of favor. Since Fernandez was dropped, Chelsea has only lost once, at Anfield.

Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a British record £107 million after winning Young Player of the Tournament at the 2022 World Cup, now appears to be outside the club’s first-choice lineup. This has reportedly attracted the interest of Inter Milan and Barcelona, although Fernandez is said to be determined to reclaim his place.

Ahead of Chelsea’s recent 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Maresca commented on the situation, emphasizing that a player’s price tag doesn’t influence his selection: “They are human beings, and if you pay £100m, that is not my problem… That does not mean that in every game you have to be the best.”

Fernandez faced controversy over the summer after a video surfaced of him seemingly singing along to racist lyrics during Argentina’s Copa America celebrations. He has since apologized, following criticism from teammate Wesley Fofana.
