Frank Lampard is reportedly close to a managerial comeback.
The Chelsea icon has been considered for a surprise return to the dugout, having been out of work since ending his role as interim Chelsea manager at the close of the 2023/24 season. Before that, Lampard managed Everton from 2022 to 2023, helping them avoid relegation.
Lampard’s first major management position was at Chelsea in 2019, where he held the role for 18 months. Since stepping away from coaching, he’s appeared regularly as a pundit on BBC and Sky Sports, most recently covering Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lampard has emerged as a contender to replace Ivan Juric at Roma, a club owned by the Friedkin Group, who are also reportedly in talks to acquire Everton. Unnamed sources close to Everton have allegedly suggested Lampard as a strong candidate.
Juric, Roma’s third manager in less than a year, has struggled with four losses in his first 10 games. The club previously parted ways with both Jose Mourinho and Daniele de Rossi earlier this season.
Gazzetta also reports that other candidates with ties to English football are in consideration, including Roberto Mancini, Claudio Ranieri, and Paulo Sousa, though Lampard’s name is said to have gained significant traction recently. A final decision on the role has yet to be made.
