Ruben Amorim has wasted no time making his mark as Manchester United’s new manager.
After officially taking charge on Monday following his departure from Sporting Lisbon, Amorim has already made a key decision by reportedly ‘blocking’ the sale of a promising young player.
The 39-year-old began his tenure by meeting with non-international first-team players, touring Old Trafford, and visiting the Carrington training ground. In his first interview as United boss, Amorim emphasized his focus on “having fun and winning” during his time at the helm.
Amorim will lead United for the first time next Sunday in their Premier League clash against Ipswich Town. However, despite being in the role for only a few days, the Portuguese manager has already shown his intent to nurture youth talent.
According to Football Insider, Amorim and United have decided to retain 17-year-old left-back Harry Amass amid interest from Aston Villa. The club reportedly views Amass as a player with “huge potential” and a key part of their future plans. While former manager Erik ten Hag hesitated to integrate the teenager into senior football, Amorim may see him as a fit for his new system.
Amass, who has trained with the first team and featured in matchday squads this season, could earn a place in the squad to face Ipswich if he impresses in training, especially with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sidelined by injuries.
