Arsenal has reportedly initiated contact regarding Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler, according to Spanish sources.

The 19-year-old, who joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahçe last year in a €20 million (£17 million) deal, made 12 La Liga appearances during his debut season. Despite his promising performances for Turkey at Euro 2024, Güler has struggled for regular game time under Carlo Ancelotti this season, starting just three of Real Madrid’s 17 matches in all competitions.

According to Sport, Güler is dissatisfied with his limited role at the club and is exploring opportunities for more consistent minutes. Arsenal is said to have reached out to the player’s representatives to gauge his interest in a move to the Premier League.

The Gunners reportedly see parallels between Güler’s situation and that of Martin Ødegaard, who faced similar challenges at Real Madrid before thriving at Arsenal. Ødegaard initially joined the North London club on loan in 2021 before making a permanent switch for £30 million.

Addressing questions about Güler and fellow prospect Endrick, Ancelotti said, “Endrick is ready to play, doing very well, and showing a lot of quality in training. I say the same thing about Güler. These are young players pushing. The main goal is to turn things around as quickly as possible, not just allocate minutes to one player over another.”
