Ruben Amorim has expressed admiration for Manchester United star Mason Mount, revealing his excitement to work with the midfielder in his system.
Having overseen his first training sessions at the club this week, Amorim spoke glowingly of Mount during his pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Ipswich Town.
“I love that kid,” Amorim said via the club’s official website. “You can see in his eyes how badly he wants this. That passion is the most important thing for me.”
He acknowledged Mount’s struggles with injuries this season but praised his determination to return to full fitness. “Now he’s trying to stay fit, and we hope he continues to show the talent he’s already demonstrated, especially during his time at Chelsea,” Amorim added.
The Portuguese coach believes Mount will thrive in his system, which might include a 3-4-3 formation. “He played in this system before, so it’s perfect for him. I even have two positions in mind for him—he should be very happy!”
Amorim emphasized that his focus is on building a strong team identity and character rather than being fixated on formations. “The system is secondary to the principles, identity, and character that make Manchester United special,” he explained.
Mount, who has made just six appearances this season due to injuries, returned to full training recently and could play a pivotal role in Amorim’s plans moving forward.
