Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has addressed Mohamed Salah’s recent comments about his contract situation, becoming the first current player to do so.
The remarks followed Liverpool’s dramatic comeback victory against Southampton, where Salah, after scoring twice, expressed frustration over not yet receiving an offer to extend his contract, which expires this summer. The surprising admission raised concerns among fans.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, Robertson defended Salah’s professionalism, stating, “For us as players, it’s nothing we can get involved in. Look at Mo today, yesterday – he’s the ultimate professional. It’s the same with Virgil and Trent; they’re all focused on the next game and being leaders.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also dismissed concerns, reassuring fans that Salah remains focused. “I don’t think Mo is distracted at all. He just keeps on scoring. The media and fans talk, but at the AXA, no one’s discussing it,” Slot said.
Robertson’s comments follow criticism from former player Jamie Carragher, who expressed disappointment with Salah’s timing, especially with crucial matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City on the horizon. “In seven years at Liverpool, he’s only stopped in the mixed zone twice, but he chose now, after a key win, to speak,” Carragher remarked on Sky Sports.
