“Premier League Explains Controversial Decision Behind Newcastle’s Goal Against Tottenham”

Newcastle United scored a controversial goal against Tottenham that left fans in disbelief after it was allowed to stand, despite claims of a handball in the build-up.

Tottenham initially took the lead when Dominic Solanke headed in from close range, but Newcastle quickly responded with Anthony Gordon scoring past Brandon Austin.

However, Spurs fans argued that the goal should have been disallowed due to a handball by Joelinton, who intercepted Lucas Bergvall’s pass with his arm before Bruno Guimaraes set up Gordon for the equalizer.

VAR reviewed the incident but allowed the goal, ruling that Joelinton’s handball was not intentional, as his arm was in a natural position and did not directly lead to the goal.

The Premier League later clarified the decision in a statement: “The referee’s call of goal was confirmed by VAR, who checked for a potential handball by Joelinton in the build-up and deemed that his arm was by his side, in a natural position, and the contact was accidental.”

Despite the explanation, fans on social media were unconvinced. One user on X stated, “Attacking handball rule is broken because if Joelinton was the goalscorer, it gets disallowed.” Another questioned, “How is that not handball?”

Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara also expressed his frustration, commenting, “Wtf it’s handball, how can you give that as a goal? It’s put him in on goal, what a joke.”
