A key Liverpool player attracted interest from another club but remains with the Premier League leaders for now.

Liverpool received two offers for Darwin Núñez from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr during the January transfer window, but no agreement was reached. The bids, reportedly exceeding €75m (£62.5m) plus add-ons, aimed to bring Núñez in as a strike partner for Cristiano Ronaldo under head coach Stefano Pioli. Talks reached an advanced stage, but Liverpool ultimately decided against the move due to concerns over finding a suitable replacement in time.

Since joining Liverpool for a club-record £85m in June 2022, Núñez has struggled to fully justify his price tag. This season, the 25-year-old has made 32 appearances, scoring six goals and providing five assists, but he has often played behind Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Luis Díaz in the attacking pecking order.

Meanwhile, Liverpool remain in a strong position under Arne Slot, leading the Premier League by six points and preparing for the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park. They have also progressed in the Champions League and reached the Carabao Cup final, despite a surprise FA Cup exit to Plymouth.
