Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly turned down a contract extension and is on the verge of sealing a move to Real Madrid.

Sources close to the situation have told CaughtOffside that a deal between the England international and the Spanish giants is 99% complete, with Alexander-Arnold expected to join Madrid on a Free move upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot made a strong effort to keep the 26-year-old at Anfield, offering him the chance to become a future captain and club legend. However, it appears Alexander-Arnold is ready for a new challenge abroad.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich also showed interest, but Real Madrid were always confident of leading the race for his signature. It’s believed the defender’s preference has consistently been a move to the Bernabéu.

Slot is said to be disappointed at losing such a vital player so early into his tenure, having done all he could to convince him to stay. However, with the appeal of joining one of the world’s most iconic clubs as he enters his peak years, Alexander-Arnold looks set to complete the switch.

Once confirmed, this would be another marquee free signing for Real Madrid following their acquisition of Kylian Mbappe last summer.
