Ryan Gravenberch’s Agent Breaks Silence After Liverpool Fans Erupt Over Real Madrid Transfer Remarks
The agent of Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has clarified his recent comments about Real Madrid following backlash from Reds fans.
In a surprising interview with Spanish outlet MARCA, Gravenberch’s agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, admitted he would “love” to see the 22-year-old play for Real Madrid, sparking concern among Liverpool supporters. Gravenberch has been a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield during their Premier League title charge, making the idea of his departure a worrying prospect for head coach Arne Slot.
Rodriguez had said:
“When Ryan was 16, Barcelona approached us about a move. They were interested in signing him, but his father and I chose to focus on his development instead. He has the quality to play for Real Madrid, and we’d love to see him there someday. However, Liverpool would demand a significant fee, so right now, a transfer is simply not possible.”
Unsurprisingly, the remarks triggered a wave of concern among fans on social media. However, Rodriguez later sought to calm the storm by issuing a statement on Instagram.
“I’m Spanish,” he explained. “Real Madrid is my dream club, not Ryan’s. He’s very happy at Liverpool, and if you ask him, he’ll tell you himself that Liverpool is the biggest club in the world. No worries—stay calm.”
That reassurance will come as a relief to Liverpool fans and to Slot, especially given Gravenberch’s resurgence this season. After a challenging start under Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman has become a regular starter under Slot, featuring in every Premier League match of the 2024/25 campaign so far.
In an interview with TNT Sports last November, Gravenberch praised Arne Slot for helping him rediscover his form:
“Now I’m starting regularly, so things feel different. The coach gave me confidence when I needed it most, and I’m glad I have the chance to prove myself again.”
He also opened up about the struggles of dealing with inconsistent playing time under Klopp:
“Sometimes it’s tough. You’re on the bench, then you play well, but then you’re back on the bench. You come on for 10 minutes, and it doesn’t go as planned. That’s what makes it challenging.”
