Liverpool star eyeing shock summer departure following Premier League title triumph

A Liverpool player could be on the move this summer after slipping down the pecking order under head coach Arne Slot.

Slot, 46, is nearing a remarkable achievement—winning the Premier League in his first season—but his selection choices have been consistent, favouring stars like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Ibrahima Konate. Meanwhile, others, including Joe Gomez, Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa, have had limited roles.

Chiesa, who joined from Juventus in the summer of 2024, has only started three of his twelve appearances, though he’s chipped in with two goals and two assists. He was left out of the matchday squad for the Leicester game on April 20, with Trent Alexander-Arnold returning to the lineup.

With the summer transfer window opening on June 1, Chiesa may look for more playing time elsewhere. Reports from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato suggest that he’s attracting interest from three Serie A clubs. Inter Milan are reportedly the most likely destination, as Joaquin Correa is expected to leave. Napoli is another option, depending on the managerial situation with Antonio Conte, while Roma could also be in the mix—though their Europa League qualification status might play a role.

Slot has given some insight into why Chiesa hasn’t featured much. In March, he explained that non-starters have limited opportunities to train with the first team due to the intense fixture schedule. Recovery sessions, light tactical walk-throughs, and minimal full-speed training mean fewer chances to compete for spots. Still, Slot said players have opportunities to impress during post-match sessions led by his assistants, though he admitted it’s far from ideal for those not regularly starting.
