“‘He’s Keen on Liverpool’ – David Ornstein Drops Major Transfer Hint on 24-Year-Old Star”
David Ornstein has highlighted the possibility of Liverpool pursuing a player this summer who is reportedly ‘interested’ in a move to Anfield.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold confirming on Monday that he’ll depart his hometown club at the end of the season, the Reds may realistically be looking for a replacement in the coming months.
Yesterday, we revealed that Liverpool’s leadership is preparing an opening bid for Jeremie Frimpong, and this potential move for the Bayer Leverkusen right-back has also been suggested by the respected journalist from The Athletic.
What has Ornstein said about Frimpong and Liverpool? On NBC Sports, Ornstein stated that the Dutch international may be available this summer and would be open to a move to the Premier League champions.
He commented: “If they went for something different, something more versatile, players like Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen could be on the market.
“He has a release clause of around €35m (£29.8m), from what I understand. I also believe he would be interested in joining Liverpool if they pursue that route. They will have other options, but Frimpong has been mentioned in several reports.”
What an opportunity for Liverpool to secure a significant transfer! If the 24-year-old is indeed eager to join Liverpool, then Richard Hughes would be remiss not to push for him in the summer transfer window.
Although Conor Bradley has been impressive, his injury history over the last couple of years means relying on him as the sole senior right-back next season would be highly risky, even with Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah able to fill in.
Frimpong would appear to be as close to a direct replacement for Trent as possible, with the Leverkusen full-back being a constant attacking threat from the right side, having scored 18 goals and provided 24 assists in the last two seasons.
When compared to other full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, he ranks in the top 1% for non-penalty xG and touches in the opposition penalty area, as well as the top 2% for progressive carries, top 5% for shots taken, and top 7% for expected assisted goals (according to FBref).
For Liverpool to secure a right-back of the 24-year-old’s proven quality for just £30m would be an incredible deal in today’s market, and with Ornstein suggesting that the Dutchman seems ‘interested’ in joining the Reds, Hughes couldn’t ask for a better transfer opportunity.
