The decision to sack Postecoglou last Friday has proven controversial, with The Telegraph reporting that chairman Daniel Levy is now facing potential unrest within the squad. Several players are reportedly considering leaving, and whoever steps into the role will face the significant challenge of repairing a fractured dressing room.

While Spurs have confirmed that a new manager will be appointed in due course, their search has already hit a roadblock. One of their top managerial targets, Roberto De Zerbi, has turned down an approach from the club.

De Zerbi Turns Down Spurs Interest

De Zerbi, currently at Marseille, led the French club to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and is committed to continuing with them into the Champions League next season. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have prioritized Thomas Frank as their leading candidate, with Marco Silva (Fulham) and Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) also on the shortlist. However, De Zerbi has made it clear he wants to remain at the Stade Vélodrome.

“Tottenham are prepared to advance in talks with leading candidate Thomas Frank in the next days,” Romano said. “Spurs also approached Roberto De Zerbi in recent days, but the Italian head coach rejected as he wants to stay at Olympique Marseille.”

Postecoglou Issues Heartfelt Farewell

Following his dismissal, Postecoglou released an emotional farewell message, expressing his pride in leading Spurs and reflecting on their Europa League success.

“When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride,” he wrote.

“The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime… That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream.”

He praised the players, staff, and fans, calling the team “a fantastic group of young men” who are now “legends of this football club.” He ended his message with the club’s motto:
