Marc Guehi has broken his silence on a potential Crystal Palace departure amid shock Liverpool transfer links.
Liverpool are targeting Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi as Arne Slot’s eventful summer transfer window picks up steam.
After initially making just one permanent signing, the Reds have accelerated their recruitment drive following a triumphant Premier League campaign, fulfilling Virgil van Dijk’s promise of a transformative summer.
Jeremie Frimpong has already joined the squad, while a club-record deal for Florian Wirtz is nearing completion. A move for Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez also looks set to go through shortly.
Attention is now shifting towards player sales, with Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, and Jarell Quansah all facing uncertain futures. Quansah, who broke into the senior side under Jurgen Klopp, has struggled for minutes under Slot and is on the verge of sealing a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. As a result, Liverpool are expected to seek a defensive replacement.
Reports suggest Guehi is high on their list. Since leaving Chelsea, the 24-year-old has impressed at Selhurst Park and played a key role in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final. Although Palace previously rejected bids from Newcastle and Tottenham, Guehi is now entering the final year of his contract — meaning Liverpool’s offer could be Palace’s best chance to secure a return on their investment.
Guehi, speaking ahead of the FA Cup final, sidestepped questions about his future, instead stressing his dedication to Palace.
“The most important thing is always giving my best for this football club,” he said. “I turn up every day with the same mindset: to work hard. This club has done a lot for me.”
If Guehi does move to Anfield, it could cast further doubt over Ibrahima Konate’s future. With contract talks stalling and Real Madrid reportedly interested in a free transfer next summer, Liverpool may opt to cash in now — especially after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid for a minimal fee.
A fee in excess of £40 million is likely to be required for Liverpool to secure Guehi’s signature.
