Harvey Elliott nets one of the finest goals of the U21 Euros just hours after a Premier League club drops its pursuit of him.
They were 'discouraged' by Elliott's asking price when they contacted Liverpool.
Harvey Elliott scored one of the most impressive goals at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship, just hours after a Premier League club reportedly decided against pursuing him.
The 22-year-old struck twice on Wednesday afternoon, leading England to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Netherlands and securing a place in the Euros final.
Elliott, who has tallied four goals for the Young Lions this summer, has been a standout player amid ongoing uncertainty about his future at Liverpool.
Reports suggest Liverpool has set a £40 million asking price for the former Fulham player, which has ‘discouraged’ Wolves from making an approach, according to journalist Dean Jones.
“Wolves were put off by Harvey Elliott’s price when they inquired about a deal,” he shared on X, formerly Twitter. “Brighton seems more willing to engage at the £40 million valuation.”
Last month, Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Elliott, once described as a “sensational talent” by Jurgen Klopp, is being monitored by several clubs.
“A move for Harvey Elliott is possible,” Plettenberg noted on X. “There are many interesting inquiries, and discussions are ongoing. Liverpool would not block a suitable offer. His contract extends until 2027.”
Elliott joined Liverpool in 2019 and made 28 appearances across all competitions for the Reds in the 2024/25 season, most of which were from the bench, including just six starts in the Premier League.
After celebrating their Premier League title in front of an excited Anfield crowd last month, Elliott posted an emotional message on Instagram, stating: “Memories for life. Thank you, Reds.”
In an interview with LFCTV during the celebrations, Elliott hinted that his time at Anfield might be nearing its end, saying, “you never know what’s going to happen” in relation to his future.
“I feel like I’ve played a bigger role in this league win,” he remarked about the club’s 2019/20 title. “Back then, I was just a young player with limited appearances.”
“Since returning from injury, I’ve been included in every squad. Being part of the travel, the away games, and all the experiences outside of playing feels much more meaningful now. I’m trying to enjoy every moment because the future is uncertain.”
He added, “You can’t take these moments for granted; you should celebrate and enjoy them as much as possible.”
