Conflicting views arise regarding Liverpool’s transfer as Pearce offers his opinion.

Liverpool’s next signing might not be as close as fans expected, according to a reliable source.

James Pearce has provided an update on Gabriel Schluter, the 16-year-old Blackpool midfielder who was previously rumored to be joining Anfield. In a post on X, the Athletic reporter noted, “Liverpool has shown interest in Blackpool’s Gabriel Schluter, but claims that a deal is finalized or nearly done are inaccurate.”

This contradicts earlier reports from Football Insider, which claimed Liverpool had agreed to a six-figure fee and scheduled a medical for the player this week.

It’s evident that the Premier League champions are keeping a close eye on Schluter following his impressive performance at Bloomfield Road. He made his senior debut last season in a Bristol Street Motors Trophy match against Liverpool U21s, where he scored in a penalty shootout, although the young Reds advanced.

Wearing No. 48 for Blackpool, Schluter was named the academy’s Players’ Player of the Year in 2024.

While Liverpool continues to admire Schluter, Pearce’s update indicates that fans may need to be patient regarding any potential deal. The club has already signed Florian Wirtz this summer, which could impact the midfield depth, with players like Harvey Elliott rumored to be leaving.

Fulham and Stockport are also reportedly interested in Schluter, which could pressure Liverpool if they are genuinely interested.

This situation isn’t the first time a supposed deal has seemed more advanced than it actually is. With figures like Arne Slot making significant signings, including Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, a move for Schluter might be more of a future consideration than an immediate one.

Nevertheless, Pearce’s confirmation of Liverpool’s interest keeps the possibility alive. Timing will be crucial as always.
