Prior to the game, wreaths were laid at pitchside by Palace chairman Steve Parish and Liverpool legend Ian Rush in memory of Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain in July. Before the match, some Palace fans urged their fellow supporters on social media to observe the silence. One fan even encouraged everyone to arrive early to ensure they were seated in time.
Following the tribute, the popular Liverpool account ‘Empire of the Kop’ thanked those who respected the moment, while criticizing those who chose to boo.
