Newcastle are reportedly preparing to push ahead with a move for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as they look to strengthen their attack amid the ongoing transfer saga surrounding top scorer Alexander Isak.

Liverpool, meanwhile, appear to be waiting for a signal from Eddie Howe’s side before submitting an improved second bid for the Swedish striker.

According to Fabrizio Romano, with Dango Ouattara close to joining Brentford, the path should be clear for Wissa to secure his desired switch to St James’ Park. Newcastle are said to be planning to accelerate negotiations for the 28-year-old “as soon as possible.” Whether this deal will influence Isak’s future remains uncertain.

Wissa is seen as a strong addition for the 2025/26 season, though Newcastle initially aimed for a marquee signing to help facilitate Isak’s possible summer exit.

From a statistical standpoint, Wissa’s output rivals the Premier League’s best, which could give Liverpool fans hope that Isak might finally get his dream move to Anfield.

However, reports suggest Newcastle still want another high-calibre forward in addition to Wissa. As the Chronicle notes, the Brentford man might primarily replace Callum Wilson, meaning a further signing would be needed if No.14 were to leave.
