Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that both Leandro Trossard and new signing Martin Zubimendi will be available for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Trossard, 30, had been sidelined for Arsenal’s final two pre-season friendlies due to a muscle injury, while 26-year-old Zubimendi was absent from the club’s media day photos ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The Spain international, brought in from Real Sociedad for £55.8 million as Arsenal’s second-most expensive summer signing, is expected to play a key role in elevating the team’s midfield.

Arteta praised Zubimendi’s swift adaptation, noting his immediate positive impact on the squad and confirming he will be fit for the clash. Trossard, who has been linked with a summer exit, is also set to make the squad after showing improvement in training.

The Arsenal boss also discussed competition in the squad, with Viktor Gyökeres—signed in a deal worth up to £63.7 million—and Kai Havertz both in contention for the No.9 role. Arteta highlighted the unprecedented depth at his disposal, with multiple players capable of covering several positions, stressing that selection will come down to performance, competition, and teamwork.

He added that while the first week will be an adjustment period, the busy schedule of playing three times a week will naturally rotate the squad and keep players engaged.
