Rio Ngumoha’s new position at Liverpool has been confirmed, even with the possibility of Alexander Isak joining the team.

Rio Ngumoha is set to have an increasing role at Liverpool this season, according to manager Arne Slot. The Premier League champions have invested over £300 million this summer, acquiring top attacking players like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, while still hoping to secure Alexander Isak before the transfer deadline on Monday.

Despite the presence of key players like Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, along with Federico Chiesa, Ngumoha faces tough competition for playing time. However, in response to inquiries about Isak’s potential signing, Slot emphasized his plans for the 17-year-old, who scored the decisive goal against Newcastle on Monday.

“The press conference began with questions about our spending compared to other clubs, and in the end, a 16-year-old from the academy scores the winner—that’s the beauty of football,” Slot remarked. “We’ve spent a lot, but we also sold players, and there’s still space for him. He can showcase his talents, and he’ll be on the bench for the upcoming game.”

Whether Ngumoha, who made his Premier League debut on Monday and celebrated his 17th birthday on Friday, is ready to start in top-flight matches remains uncertain.

“It was a fantastic goal for a 16-year-old,” Slot said to Sky Sports after the game. “Rio has an impressive finishing ability for his age. I heard someone mention in the dressing room that he could have taken a first touch, but he’s very confident. For a player his age, he finishes really well.”

When asked about his attacking options ahead of the home match against Arsenal, Slot responded, “I mentioned after Monday’s game that I could make substitutions that influenced the match, as Federico did against Bournemouth and Rio did against Newcastle.

“We always aim to sign players who can enhance our squad, but there’s no reason to complain after the first two games or feel we need more. However, if we can strengthen the squad for the right price or with the right player, we’ll always consider it. With only three or four days left, let’s see if we make any moves.”
