Liverpool snubbed swap proposal involving €70m-rated star and Federico Chiesa
Liverpool have reportedly turned down a bold proposal that would have seen Federico Chiesa depart Anfield.
The Reds have already sealed a £125m agreement for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after a long-running transfer chase this summer. They’re also close to finalising a £35m move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who has just a year left on his deal.
It’s been a blockbuster window for Liverpool, with their £105m swoop for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz nearly breaking the British transfer record—one that the Isak deal is set to surpass. Additions such as Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni mean their outlay will soar past £300m.
That spending has been balanced somewhat by sales, with Jarell Quansah, Luis Díaz, Ben Doak and Darwin Núñez all leaving the club. In total, Arne Slot’s side have brought in more than £150m from departures, helping to fund their heavy investment.
However, Liverpool did reject an ambitious offer involving Chiesa. According to the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, AC Milan showed interest earlier in the window, which would have marked a Serie A return for the Italian winger after his time at Juventus and Fiorentina. Reports claim Liverpool were even offered Rafael Leão in exchange, but the Reds declined, opting against signing the Portuguese forward. Effectively, it would have amounted to a swap between the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finalists.
For now, Liverpool remain focused on completing the Guehi deal, with Palace still working on finding a replacement after their loan pursuit of Brighton’s Igor collapsed.
