Fitness concern: Crystal Palace sweating on £26m star ahead of Liverpool clash

Crystal Palace are awaiting the outcome of medical tests on Yeremy Pino ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

The clash at Selhurst Park sees the division’s only two unbeaten sides meet again following last month’s Community Shield, which Palace won on penalties at Wembley. It will also be the first time the clubs face each other since the Eagles pulled the plug on Marc Guehi’s £35m move to Anfield on deadline day.

Pino injury concern ahead of Liverpool tie
Palace’s 2-1 win at West Ham was overshadowed by the half-time substitution of Pino, who reported discomfort in his knee. Speaking after the game, Oliver Glasner explained (via Evening Standard):
“He had pain in his knee. We don’t know exactly what it is yet – we’ll assess and probably do a scan. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, but he couldn’t continue.”

The 22-year-old summer signing from Villarreal, who produced 14 goal contributions last season, has yet to find the net in England but remains a key attacking option. His absence would be a setback, though Palace could be boosted by the return of Ismaila Sarr, who’s due back in training this week after a hamstring problem.

Sarr’s comeback would be especially significant given his track record against Liverpool. The Senegalese winger has already scored in both Palace fixtures against the Reds this year, and he famously struck twice for Watford in the game that ended Liverpool’s unbeaten 2019/20 league run. Only one club has conceded more goals to him than the Merseysiders.

Whether it’s Pino or Sarr leading the line, Liverpool can expect a stern test against a Palace side whose strong start to the campaign has gone somewhat under the radar.

Everyone at LFC will hope Pino’s injury proves minor, and we wish him a speedy recovery as he awaits scan results.
