Liverpool catch European heavyweights off guard with a surprise bid for the pacey attacker.

Liverpool are reportedly keen on securing the services of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi.

The 23-year-old has impressed during his time in Germany and is held in high regard by Dortmund. Reports from Fichajes claim Adeyemi is valued at around €60 million, though the Bundesliga side are said to be unwilling to consider offers below €75 million.

Despite that valuation, Liverpool have allegedly tabled a shock €20 million bid in an attempt to prise Adeyemi away from Dortmund. The proposal is understood to have taken the German club by surprise, given how far it falls short of their asking price. A deal at that figure appears extremely unlikely, and Liverpool would almost certainly need to return with a significantly improved offer to make any progress.

The Reds are eager to strengthen their attacking options, and Adeyemi’s profile fits the bill. The Germany international can operate across the entire front line, offering blistering pace, technical quality and an element of unpredictability in the final third.

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the Dortmund attacker.
Why Adeyemi appeals to Liverpool
Still only 23, Adeyemi is viewed as a player with enormous upside, and Liverpool could see him as someone to develop into a long-term asset. Additional depth on the wings is a priority, and the lure of a club of Liverpool’s stature could be appealing to the player, provided the two sides can agree on a fee.

Liverpool had previously been linked with Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, but the forward is believed to favour a move to Manchester City, prompting the Merseyside club to explore alternative targets. How successful they are in the January window could be crucial as they push for a top-four finish.
Alongside attacking reinforcements, Liverpool are also expected to be in the market for a high-quality defensive addition.
