Spurs are said to be interested in signing Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush during the January transfer window. The Egyptian international has found game time hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium and is understood to be considering his future, with regular minutes proving difficult to secure.
At this stage of his career, Marmoush is keen to play consistently, and a spell on the sidelines at City is unlikely to benefit him. A move away in January could therefore appeal, with Tottenham emerging as a potential destination. The North London club are in the market for a dynamic attacker capable of playing both through the middle and out wide, qualities Marmoush is known for, along with his goal threat and creativity.
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has confirmed Spurs’ interest, indicating that the player is expected to move on.
“Tottenham have been looking at Marmoush,” Brown told Football Insider.
“It’s a move that would suit them because he can play up front and on the wing, which are areas they’ve been looking to strengthen.
“It could also make sense for him, as he’s been out of the side at Manchester City and will want to be playing regularly at this point.
“I thought he was really impressive when he first came in at City, but they’ve since added players like Cherki, while Foden and Doku are in top form.
“Guardiola doesn’t appear to see him as part of the starting XI anymore, so he may feel it’s time to move on if an offer arrives.”
Whether Tottenham can strike an agreement with Manchester City remains to be seen. With City competing for the league title, they may be reluctant to allow a departure midway through the season, although the situation could change if Marmoush pushes for a move.
