Antoine Semenyo has made a Premier League side aware of his intention to secure a move in the January transfer window.
Antoine Semenyo has been at the centre of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks, with several clubs vying for his signature. Bournemouth are understood to have accepted that they could lose him early in the January window, and the player has now decided on his next destination.
Manchester City have led the race for much of the process, though Liverpool and Arsenal have also remained in contention. However, it now appears the champions have edged ahead of their rivals.
Semenyo opts for Manchester City
According to Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown has revealed that Semenyo has made a firm decision to join Manchester City in January.
“Semenyo has made his choice,” Brown explained. “He’s spoken with his agent and those involved in the deal about where he wants to go, and the clubs have now been informed. It looks like he’s decided on Manchester City, and they’re working to push the deal through quickly.
“When you have interest from clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool, it’s never an easy decision, and Manchester United were also mentioned. But it’s a positive situation for the player, having those options and being able to choose what suits him best.
“It seems he’s settled on City — the chance to work under Pep Guardiola and challenge for trophies is a big attraction. It’s a fantastic move for him. It would be a major setback for Liverpool, who were very keen on him, especially given the situations surrounding Isak and Salah.”
Is City the right step?
The opportunity to play under Guardiola is likely to have played a key role in Semenyo’s thinking, and he is expected to feature regularly at the Etihad. From that perspective, a move to Manchester City appears to be a logical and well-timed step in his career.
