Tottenham are targeting a £70m “dream” replacement for Johnson, with the player eager to make the move.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Savinho as their ‘dream’ replacement for Brennan Johnson now that the January transfer window is open, according to GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs.

Johnson is close to completing a £33.5m move to Crystal Palace after being informed by head coach Thomas Frank that he is no longer part of the club’s plans, with his medical taking place on Thursday night. Spurs are now focused on securing a replacement before the February 2 deadline.

Tottenham had previously pursued Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo but pulled out of the race after the Ghana international made it clear he was not interested in the move and is now expected to join Manchester City. Attention has since turned back to Savinho, with Spurs considering a renewed approach for the City winger this month.

Signing Savinho would require a substantial offer. Manchester City previously blocked a move last summer, despite a fee in the region of £70m being discussed, after CEO Ferran Soriano deemed the player not for sale. A similar figure would likely be needed for City to even consider negotiations mid-season.

Jacobs reports that Tottenham may again test City’s resolve, especially as Savinho was keen on joining Spurs just a few months ago.

Despite adding Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani in the summer, Tottenham have struggled for consistency in attack. At the halfway stage of the Premier League season, they have scored 27 goals in 19 matches, and frustration among supporters was evident following the goalless draw with Brentford on New Year’s Day.

With Johnson set to depart, Spurs are in need of pace and creativity in the final third. Savinho, known for his direct running and ability to trouble defenders, fits that profile. The 21-year-old can operate on either flank and, while still developing, has been tipped by Pep Guardiola to become a top-class player.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank faces a crucial period that could shape his future at the club. Sitting 12th in the Premier League, Tottenham host seventh-placed Sunderland on Sunday before travelling to Bournemouth on Wednesday. They then welcome Aston Villa to north London in the FA Cup third round as they aim to keep their hopes of domestic silverware alive.
