European club makes unexpected move for Liverpool star Mo Salah

Talk of a possible summer transfer for Mohamed Salah is quietly building, with AS Roma reportedly weighing up a bold move to bring the Liverpool winger back later this year.

La Repubblica reports that the Serie A club have earmarked Salah as a high-profile target for the upcoming transfer window. Any formal move is expected to wait until the summer, however, due to registration restrictions.

Roma have already used all of their non-EU player slots for the current campaign, ruling out a January switch even if an agreement could be reached. As a result, the club are believed to be assessing both the financial and sporting practicality of a summer deal that could see the 33-year-old return to Italy. Salah previously made a strong impression in Serie A during spells with Fiorentina and Roma earlier in his career.

From Roma’s standpoint, the attraction is clear. Despite his age, Salah remains among Europe’s most effective wide attackers, continuing to produce goals and assists at elite level. His experience and big-game pedigree would instantly add leadership to a Roma side still aiming to close the gap on Serie A’s top teams.

At the same time, rumours of a lucrative move to the Middle East appear to have eased. iNews reports that Saudi Pro League clubs have cooled their interest during this window, despite pursuing the Liverpool star heavily in recent seasons. While that interest could resurface down the line, there is currently no expectation of an immediate offer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have yet to settle on Salah’s long-term future. He remains an influential presence both on the pitch and in the dressing room, but with his role becoming more limited under Arne Slot—and with the player reportedly unhappy about reduced minutes—a departure this year cannot be ruled out.

Sources close to Salah suggest he is in no hurry to decide, preferring to review his options once the season concludes. A return to Italy, particularly with a former club, would carry emotional weight, though it remains unclear whether it is a move he would ultimately pursue.
