Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign highly-rated Austria Wien centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe in a summer deal.
The 17-year-old defender is set to arrive at Anfield ahead of next season, with Romano delivering his familiar “here we go” — a phrase that typically signals a transfer is effectively sealed, even before any official announcement from the clubs involved.
Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), Romano wrote:
“Liverpool agree deal to sign 17-year-old Austrian centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe for summer 2026, here we go! Agreement in place, valid from July. Austria Wien accepted the proposal, as @AlexHuber81 reported today. Seen as a huge talent, Ndukwe said yes to the #LFC project.”
Liverpool snap up a “huge talent” Romano’s description of Ndukwe as a “huge talent” is sure to excite Liverpool supporters, as the club continues to invest smartly in promising young players.
While it may take time before Ndukwe features regularly in Arne Slot’s senior side, given his age and ongoing development, his potential is clear. The Austrian youth international has already shown impressive qualities, and a move to Liverpool — with access to elite coaching and world-class teammates — could significantly accelerate his progress.
Even if he initially develops away from the first-team spotlight, Liverpool have a strong track record of nurturing young talent and offering pathways to senior football. With defensive depth currently an area of concern, Ndukwe could grow into a valuable long-term option, potentially becoming a future successor to the ageing Virgil van Dijk.
