Fabrizio Romano gives the “here we go” as Liverpool seal centre-back signing
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Austria Wien’s highly rated teenage centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe in a summer deal.
The 17-year-old defender is set to arrive at Anfield next year, with Romano’s familiar “here we go” indicating the transfer is effectively completed, even though official confirmation from the clubs is still pending.
According to Romano, Liverpool have secured an agreement that will take effect from July, with Austria Wien accepting the offer following earlier reports. Ndukwe has already given his approval to the move, with Liverpool viewing him as a major prospect for the future.
Liverpool land a top young prospect
Romano’s description of Ndukwe as a “huge talent” will undoubtedly excite Liverpool supporters, as the club continues to invest smartly in young players with long-term potential.
While regular first-team football under Arne Slot may not come immediately due to his age, the Austrian youth international has shown plenty of promise. Training alongside elite players and working with top-level coaches at Liverpool could play a crucial role in his development.
Even if Ndukwe begins outside the senior squad, Liverpool have a strong record of giving young talents opportunities to progress. With defensive depth currently limited, the teenager could eventually grow into an important option at the back.
In the long run, Ndukwe may even be viewed as part of Liverpool’s succession planning, with Virgil van Dijk getting older and Ibrahima Konaté approaching the final stages of his contract. Further defensive reinforcements are also expected as the club looks to strengthen its back line.
