Coventry City and Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement on a transfer deal.
Coventry City have made an impressive start under Frank Lampard, sitting top of the Championship with only a few defeats and boasting the division’s best attacking record. However, their form has dipped slightly of late, with just two wins from their last eight league outings.
Lampard’s tactical adjustments have largely strengthened both ends of the pitch, delivering Coventry’s best early-season points return in years and keeping them firmly in the promotion hunt. Continuity from last season has also played a key role in that success.
That said, while Coventry are keen to avoid unsettling a well-drilled squad, depth remains an issue in certain positions. A small group of players has been covering multiple attacking roles, and injuries have highlighted a lack of options, particularly in wide areas, restricting Lampard’s ability to rotate.
Adding reinforcements could help sustain their promotion push during the second half of the campaign, rather than over-relying on the same core of starters. At present, Coventry have limited specialist wide options beyond Ephron Mason-Clark and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, leaving little cover when either is unavailable.
Despite the challenge of strengthening a side that has led the table for much of the season, wide attacking reinforcements have been identified as a priority. Coventry have been linked with several options, including a potential loan move for Crystal Palace’s Romain Esse.
One player who matches the profile is Tottenham Hotspur winger Yang Min-Hyeok. The 19-year-old South Korean enjoyed a productive loan spell at QPR during the 2024/25 season before joining Portsmouth on a season-long loan. However, that move is now set to be cut short.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Coventry have agreed a loan deal, with Yang leaving Portsmouth to join Lampard’s side instead. BBC reporter Chris Wise adds that Tottenham recalled the winger due to concerns over his limited playing time, with Coventry offering assurances of increased minutes. If completed, it would mark Coventry’s second loan signing of a Premier League winger.
Yang began his career at Gangwon FC, where he broke into the first team in 2024, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 38 K League 1 appearances. His performances earned him the league’s Young Player of the Year award before he signed for Tottenham in July 2024, officially joining in January 2025.
He has since gained senior experience through loan spells, contributing goals at club level, while also progressing through South Korea’s youth setup and making his senior international debut in 2025. His next step now appears set to come with Coventry City.
