Tottenham have opened discussions over a loan deal for Radu Dragusin that includes an obligation to make the move permanent.
Radu Dragusin has been heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham Hotspur, and the defender has now made a decision on his future in North London.
Life in the Premier League has proven difficult for Dragusin, who has struggled to make a lasting impact at the top level of English football. That said, the past month has brought some encouragement, with the centre-back returning from injury and featuring for Spurs after spending close to a year out.
Despite his comeback, Roma have moved to try and secure his signature, and the Romania international appears increasingly likely to leave Tottenham as early as this month.
Dragusin open to Tottenham exit amid Roma interest
Dragusin is fully aware of Roma’s interest and, according to Filippo Biafora, has decided he wants to leave Spurs to complete a move back to Serie A.
Contact between the two clubs is expected imminently, with talks described as intense as they look to finalise a deal that would see Dragusin depart just two years after joining Tottenham.
Roma are pushing for a loan agreement that includes an obligation to buy, meaning negotiations will also centre on agreeing a future transfer fee.
No clear path at Spurs with defensive competition
Dragusin’s chances at Tottenham have been limited, having struggled to adapt when his opportunity arose over a year ago. The defender did not appear to suit Ange Postecoglou’s high-line system and found the step up challenging.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain the first-choice pairing in central defence, a situation unlikely to change before the summer. With Kevin Danso performing solidly when selected and Luka Vuskovic impressing during his loan spell in Germany, Dragusin’s decision to move on could ultimately benefit both player and club.
