Liverpool have reportedly received a significant lift in the transfer market, with long-standing target Micky van de Ven said to be open to a move to Anfield.

The Tottenham defender — comfortable at both centre-back and left-back — was closely monitored by Liverpool during his spell at Wolfsburg, and fresh reports now suggest he is weighing up his future in North London and would welcome the opportunity to join the Reds.

Van de Ven has impressed since arriving in the Premier League, proving himself capable of operating at a level above that of an inconsistent Spurs side.

Tall, rapid and tactically sharp, the 24-year-old fits the profile of the modern central defender, while his ability to contribute going forward also makes him a viable option on the left. Crucially, Liverpool view him as a potential long-term successor to fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, who is beginning to show signs of decline.

The defender’s form has also attracted interest from elite European clubs such as Real Madrid, meaning Liverpool may need to act quickly to avoid missing out.

Tottenham are expected to resist any attempt to sell Van de Ven to a domestic rival, particularly given their history of allowing stars like Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić to leave England rather than strengthen Premier League competition.

Still, Van de Ven has the potential to earn a major move, and if Liverpool could pull it off, it would be an outstanding piece of business — even if it currently appears ambitious.
