Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guéhi has become one of the Premier League’s most in-demand defenders, and a fresh report suggests the 25-year-old already has a preferred destination should he depart Selhurst Park.
Speaking on the Let Me Talk podcast, it was revealed that Guéhi would lean toward a move to Liverpool rather than Manchester City, despite sustained and serious interest from Pep Guardiola’s side.
With Guéhi now entering the final months of his contract, he is on course to be available on a free transfer this summer. Palace are understood to be open to keeping their captain until the end of the season, even at the risk of losing him for nothing, though mounting pressure from elite clubs could force their hand if a significant January offer arrives.
Manchester City push hard for Guéhi
City’s need is immediate. Defensive injuries to Joško Gvardiol and Rúben Dias have left Guardiola light at centre-back, elevating Guéhi into a key transfer target as the champions look to stay competitive in both the Premier League and Champions League.
However, despite the appeal of joining City and working under Guardiola, the latest update suggests Guéhi’s preference lies elsewhere. The podcast stated: “Guéhi wants to stay until the summer and he prefers Liverpool regardless.”
That stance will come as encouragement to Liverpool, who have tracked Guéhi closely for some time as part of their long-term defensive planning. With Ibrahima Konaté’s contract situation unresolved and Virgil van Dijk moving into the latter phase of his career, the Reds see Guéhi as a natural successor capable of anchoring their defence for years.

Guéhi’s reliability, leadership, and calmness in possession have impressed Liverpool’s recruitment staff. His experience at Premier League level and regular involvement with England make him an appealing option for Arne Slot, who values defenders comfortable both defensively and in build-up play.
Crystal Palace now face a difficult decision. Selling their captain in January would weaken the squad, but holding onto him risks losing a prized asset for free in the summer. While City may attempt to force a winter move, Liverpool’s position could strengthen if Guéhi opts to wait before making his next step.
