Why Thomas Frank is still under serious threat despite a brief reprieve at Tottenham
Thomas Frank is not yet safe despite receiving a short-term vote of confidence from Tottenham’s leadership.
After Spurs’ defeat to West Ham, reports suggested the head coach was on the brink of dismissal. However, the 52-year-old has been granted a brief lifeline, with the board opting to keep him in charge for the Champions League showdown against Dortmund.
Speaking at his press conference on Monday, Frank struck a defiant tone, insisting he would fight on despite the mounting pressure. Even so, it has since become clear that his position remains extremely precarious.
Frank still facing the sack
According to The Telegraph, Frank continues to be in “critical danger” of losing his job, with his temporary reprieve offering no long-term security. His future is not believed to extend beyond the Dortmund fixture, and he is still expected to be dismissed if performances and results fail to improve.
Fan unrest is also intensifying, with Spurs supporters increasingly vocal in their demands for a change in the dugout.
If Tottenham do decide to part company with Frank, the club are expected to appoint an interim head coach initially, before moving for a permanent successor in the summer.
Who decides Frank’s fate?
The Telegraph adds that while the Lewis family will have the final say, the decision will be a collective one rather than being made by the owners alone.
The verdict will be shaped by input from the board, following recommendations from CEO Vinai Venkatesham, non-executive chairman Peter Charrington, operations and finance director Matthew Collecott, independent director Jonathan Turner and non-executive director Eric Hinson.
Sporting director Johan Lange’s opinion will also be taken into account, though Fabio Paratici will play no role in the process as he is set to leave the club.
