Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank remains under intense pressure despite Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Sources close to GIVEMESPORT revealed that before the Dortmund result, it was viewed as a case of “when, not if” Frank would depart, following one win and four defeats in his previous seven games. Another loss on Tuesday was expected to end the 52-year-old’s tenure, particularly after fans turned against him following the late defeat to West Ham.
However, the positive performance — aided by Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson being sent off in the 26th minute — has forced Tottenham’s hierarchy into a fresh evaluation with the Burnley trip fast approaching. Spurs were already 1-0 ahead through Cristian Romero before the red card, and several senior players delivered strong performances, including Romero, Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie, who impressed on their returns from long injury layoffs.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Back Pages, Ornstein confirmed that while Frank remains under heavy scrutiny, the club are not actively preparing for his departure. He explained that there is strong internal support for the manager among Tottenham’s ownership and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, and that no contingency plans are currently in place. Although results have fallen below expectations, the Dortmund win represented a significant step in the right direction.
Ornstein had previously reported after the West Ham defeat that several Spurs players were unhappy with the situation under Frank, though the intensity and quality of Tuesday’s performance suggested a united response on the pitch.
One player who remains dissatisfied is Mathys Tel. The 20-year-old forward has struggled for consistent starts and had been linked with a January loan move. After starting Tottenham’s previous four matches, Tel was left out of the Champions League squad for the Dortmund fixture and next week’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt. The decision is said to have angered the Frenchman, and he is now considering his future at the club unless there is a managerial change.
In Tel’s absence, Solanke and Xavi Simons stepped up in attack to deliver when their manager needed a response.
