Mohamed Salah rejoins the Liverpool squad as several regular starters skip training ahead of the Marseille clash.

Mohamed Salah is expected to be part of Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League meeting with Marseille on Wednesday evening, although the Reds may be without one key teammate for the trip.

The 33-year-old has rejoined his club after missing seven matches while representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored four times as his country finished fourth. It’s still unclear whether Salah will immediately return to the starting lineup, having not started a match under Arne Slot for almost two months, following his outspoken interview after the 3–3 draw with Leeds in early December.

Salah was seen training with the Liverpool squad at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday ahead of their departure to France, with footage shared by The Athletic’s James Pearce showing the forward taking part. However, Ibrahima Konate was absent from the session, with Pearce reporting that the defender has returned to France for family reasons and that his availability for the Marseille match remains uncertain.

Salah’s return will be a boost for Liverpool, especially with figures such as Jamie Carragher highlighting the team’s recent lack of sharpness in attack. The Egyptian’s presence could prove crucial as the Reds aim to strengthen their position in the Champions League and push toward automatic qualification for the knockout stages.

While Salah’s club form has dipped by his usual high standards—scoring five goals in his last 20 appearances—his four goals at AFCON suggest he has rediscovered his scoring touch. His comeback is timely, though Konate’s potential absence could leave Slot with just two senior centre-backs available for the game at the Stade Vélodrome.
