Tottenham line up an unexpected move for West Ham winger Summerville.

Summerville fits a familiar Spurs mould. The 24-year-old brings speed, direct running and strong one-v-one ability — qualities Tottenham have noticeably lacked out wide this season.

His potential arrival could also ease the way for Mathys Tel’s departure, with the forward eager to move on after being left out of the Champions League squad for the second time.

Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds United in 2024 following an outstanding Championship campaign that delivered 19 goals and nine assists. Injuries disrupted his first year in London, but he has recently started to rediscover his rhythm. Even amid West Ham’s struggles, he has stood out as one of their liveliest attacking threats, finding the net in each of his last two outings.

Tottenham should be aiming higher. While Summerville is neat, quick and hardworking, he does little to elevate a side that claims to be pursuing elite status. Spurs need genuine game-changers rather than another serviceable wide option who promises more than he delivers. He remains a solid player, but expectations should be greater. This season, he has registered two goals and four assists — identical to Wilson Odobert’s return.

Despite the rhetoric around ambition, this move feels underwhelming and further suggests Tottenham are prioritising squad depth instead of pursuing true difference-makers.
